What do hair and skin have to do with pillows? Well, I'm glad you asked! Actually, our hair and skin are directly affected by our pillows every day without us realizing. Paying attention to different fabric types and textures can help you improve your hair and skin tremendously.
Before I jump right into it, let me first introduce myself. My name is Charisse aka Therealreesie. I have been a licensed cosmetologist for over 11 years. I've been passionate about hair and especially HAIR CARE since I can remember. My mom never liked to do hair so I was introduced to the professional Cosmetology world extremely early. Seriously, I was 1 1/2 getting my hair done AT THE SALON lol. However, as i got older I became obsessed with hair. I never wanted to leave the salon once we were done so I would volunteer to help out any way I could until the salon closed for the day. That soon changed to me experimenting on myself and eventually me being in charge of maintaining my brothers cornrows by the age of 10. Context SN: they were in high school and VERY particular, so much pressure for a 10 year old but I did my thang lol!
That continued for years and by the 8th grade I knew I had to be a cosmetologist so I went to an "Arts" High School for hair. I excelled in my Cosmetology program so much that I was licensed and working as a professional Cosmetologist by my 12th grade year. Awesome right? Well honey let me tell you I just knew I was something lol. Anyway, fast forward a couple years, I later graduated college with a Degree in Business with a passion to still pursue opening a salon. I did, however, the constant issues with the "everyday salon" became irritating and the working behind the chair became more like a chore to me. I felt like I lost my love for hair; plus I was in desperate need of benefits so I quit and went to " the Corporate world". *I'm rolling my eyes* lol. That's where I am now, however my I never lost my passion for creativity and I have NEVER lost my passion for hair care. So I'm blending the two!
I love home decor; started making pillows, "like oh yeah this is Lit" LOL. A year later I started researching pillows and how they affect hair and BOOM... Genius! However, I couldn't just leave you with a piece of the pie. I feel it's my duty to help you improve your hair's foundation as well, so the decision to produce and sell hair products was a no-brainer.
Now that you've gotten a little background on me, let me explain to you the importance of selecting the correct pillow cases.Unfortunately, 100 percent cotton pillowcases can cause friction and draw moisture out of our hair. These issues lead to significant hair breakage and hair loss.
OK, so this GIF is a dramatization but seriously, hair loss and breakage is a severe problem! Not only is it a problem for our hair but our skin is also disturbed. Researchers say that resting on a smoother surface will help reduce the appearance of sleep lines and the formation of wrinkles on your face. I know I'm too young to be worried about wrinkles but its never too early to want to improve your skin, plus I forever want people to be shocked that I don't look my age!
I never want to act like I'm the only one who has heard of the benefits so let me tell you what two other professionals say about the importance of choosing the correct pillow case:
Anthony Dickey, hairstylist and owner of Hair Rules Salon; told The Huffington Post that "Satin pillowcases help to prevent frizzing and roughing of the cuticle on any hair texture and can help to prolong styles; whether your hair is kinky, curly, wavy, or straight" SN: This is for those of you that hate scarves, or my "sleep pretty" divas!
Seven Brown, internationally licensed esthetician and owner of Harlem Skin and Laser clinic; also told The Huffington Post that "For people with acne, friction can be a big deal; it can cause lesions to open and spread bacteria to the pillow case." SN: If you are prone to acne, please invest in a satin pillow case, you won't be disappointed!
Now that you've gotten the basics from myself and the other professionals, I seriously encourage you to purchase one or more of our satin pillowcases! Thank you so much for support and stay tuned for more APOYI Blogs!
